That Delivery is Going to Cost you
Have you ever noticed how many pizza delivery guys that are out on any given night? If you pay attention, I bet you will see a lot of them. Unfortunately there is a hidden exclusion in a delivery person’s personal auto insurance policy and it affects you. All coverage is excluded for “any insured using vehicle while employed in the pickup or delivery of newspapers or magazines, food or any products for the purpose of compensation”. Please note that the above statement in quotation marks is the actual language contained in a personal auto policy. At a time of loss an insurance adjuster has the ability to deny coverage due to this exclusion in the policy. Our advice is that if you or someone in your household is working in the pizza business or similar industry, request use of a company vehicle to make deliveries. If they can not provide one, you are driving without car insurance coverage. Next time you see a car with a delivery sign on it, give them a lot of room, because they are driving without insurance coverage. As always, if you have questions or feel we can be of service, call Hurst-Weiss Insurance at 412-922-8222. Hurst-Weiss “Your One-Stop Insurance & Investment Services Firm.”
